Art (by Davis)

Sometimes I like to color.
But I only like to color for five minutes at a time.
I like to color at the counter.
I stand on the very edge of my chair.
I fell off once.
Don't tell grandma.
She doesn't like me to stand on chairs.
I am very serious about my art.
I love to use pens.
Mom doesn't let me use pens.
Pencils are second best.
Mom says I am getting better at coloring.
I colored this dinosaur's toenails.
Mom says I can't color mine.
Maybe when I can stay in the lines better she'll let me.
Probably not.

First Trip to the Zoo

A few weeks ago, Russ's sister, Sharlene, invited Davis and me to go to the zoo.  It was the first warm day of the year, and nature was beckoning!
with Shar's daugher, Emmie
I tried to contain Davis in his stroller as much as possible, but the reptile exhibit doesn't allow strollers... We made sure to hit that at the very end, and Davis loved running around for twenty minutes.  I had to bribe Davis back into his stroller with fruit snacks...

Davis's favorite exhibit (other than the stroller-less reptile exhibit) was the elephants.
He was fascinated with the baby elephant.

He also liked the giraffes.
I felt really sorry for the giraffes because they were trapped in an old, windowless, cinderblock building, even though it was sunny and warm outside.

Emmie got to measure herself against the gorilla drawings.
Davis was in his stroller, and I wouldn't let him out....
I'm not a very nice mom, but I am practical.
He'd already eaten the fruit snacks,
so I had no bribe left to get him back into his stroller...

Shar and I were dressed alike (except for my white sweater).
I must be cool.

Davis loved the zoo!
Many thanks to Shar for inviting us!

Cozy Drink

Motherhood is so hard sometimes!! It is hard to maintain patience, keep a calm voice, and not tear your hair out.  But then -- just when I am ready to turn in my mother badge, he does something cute.  And I remember why I love him and why I love being his mom.  And all is good in the world again.

After four hours of Davis being extremely grumpy several weeks ago (I think he napped too long), I finally got him calmed down enough to lie on my lap to read stories for bedtime.   Davis laid with his head on the boppy (pillow), and I propped his "Noah" book up for him to read.  He then asked for his drink.  He took a sip, and then proceeded to put the sippy cup down my shirt, right in the middle.  He said "cozy drink."  He periodically took drinks, replaced the cup down my shirt and then said "cozy drink."  (I only let him do it a couple of times -- I had put refrigerated water in the cup!

A couple of days ago I was holding him, trying to get him to take a nap.  He was getting groggy and silly, and he reached up and patted my hair and said "Pretty.  Pretty mommy. Cute."  What a sweetie!  I don't care how tired he was -- I know he meant it, of course :)

Davis knows his name is Davis, but he gets a little confused with his last name.  He usually says "Lashes" instead of "Lasson."

Davis LOVES to drag the kitchen stools around the kitchen.  He climbs up on them, and likes to play with things on the counter (and in the silverware drawer -- mental note: move the knives and other sharp kitchen tools or put a lock on the drawer!).
on a kitchen chair (my preference over a stool), but you get the idea
playing with legos at grandma's house -- cousin Ethan's and Davis's shirts almost matched (unintentionally!)

A couple of weeks ago, he learned how to climb off the stool by himself.  He got down carefully on his first try, and he said, "I DID it! I DID it!" soooo proudly!  His voice was so expressive, and he gave me a big hug.  I got pretty sentimental and thought about all the things he was going to learn how to do on his own and how proud he would be about it (I'll admit I even pictured him coming home from his mission saying, "Mom, I DID it!").
