A Milestone

Today was Davis's first day in nursery!  I can't believe my baby is 18 months old!!!  Russ and I both took him to nursery.  I wasn't worried about him, but I was really excited to see how he would do (I know -- that excitement only happens with the first child...).  So how did it go?  Since you are dying to get a full report, here it is...

Davis loved all the toys.  I'm pretty sure he was thinking, "There are toys at church?!?! Mom and dad have been holding out on me!"  He played pretty well with the other kids, and only tried to take another kid's toy once while I was there (Russ and I only stayed for the first hour).

His favorite part of the day was singing time.  He looked so grown up sitting on a chair with all the other kids.  He laughed and giggled and participated with props.  He was so animated, our cute singing leader was laughing too.  He loves to sing and would have loved to sing for another 30 minutes!

We left him during snack time.  Again, he looked so grown up sitting at the table with the other kids.  He didn't even notice when we left (and he hardly interacted with us when we were in there).

Russ came back after 30 minutes or so and found Davis "working" on a coloring project with the other kids.  Actually, Davis was almost asleep at the table (he was very late for his nap -- I hate how church messes with his schedule).  Russ took some video of Davis "coloring," and I can verify that he really was almost asleep.  His eyes were almost shut, and he wasn't moving at all!  Russ took him in his arms and held him outside the Relief Society room for the last 20 minutes of church.

There was one little bit of excitement, however... while we were both gone, Davis was bitten twice by another kid in nursery!  I don't know if the church condones hazing, but....what a great thing to happen on his first experience in nursery!  Hopefully he wasn't too traumatized and will go back without a problem next week.  I am taking comfort in the fact that he was almost asleep at the coloring table AFTER his little vampire experience....

(This is not a pic from today, but I thought this post needed a picture!)

My Little Monkey

Davis had a blast carving his first pumpkin this year (don't call DCFS on me -- he didn't actually do the carving...).  He loved the ooey gooey pumpkin guts.
(Please note that my child never runs around in just a diaper.  This was simply a precautionary measure due to my son's enthusiasm for anything messy.)

He wasn't even afraid to dive right into the mess [putting his mother (who refused to touch pumpkin innards until college) to shame]

In true Davis style, his favorite part of the event was stirring the seeds and guts.
He just kept stirring until the carving was complete.

And then he still kept stirring.
Only after he kissed the pumpkin was his stirring complete.

Davis made the cutest little monkey for Halloween this year!  He didn't mind the costume (even the hood, which totally surprised me).  I had great plans to make Russ dress up like The Man in the Yellow Hat (from Curious George), but I was too lazy/cheap to find/make a costume.

Davis enjoyed going trick-or-treating (we only went to four or five houses!), but he LOVED answering the door for the trick-or-treaters.  He practically tripped over himself to answer the door.
As the night wore on, it became apparent just why he loved answering the door...

Davis's friend, Ellie, stopped by for a visit.  They had more fun than this picture shows.  They Davis kept dumping the candy out of the basket and trying to eat it through the wrappers.  We had to sort through the candy to find untainted candy to pass out to the neighbor kids!
All in all, I think the monkey had a great day!
