Egermency, Egermency! Everybody to get from street!

So kudos to you if you know that the title of this post comes from the old movie "The Russians are Coming" (yes, I just got a mental picture of the Russian getting cake stuck all over his teeth while smiling dreamily at the American girl).  Anyhow, the reason for this title was that on Tuesday, my sweet little Davis decided he wanted to play with my cell phone while I was talking to my mom on it.  Before I knew it, he had dialed a few numbers and then the message "Dialing...Emergency...911" popped onto my screen!  I pushed "cancel" over and over, hoping that I could stop the call from going through.  Apparently, I was successful (either that, or our police department was too busy stopping drive-by shootings that they didn't care to respond).  It is good to know that if I have an emergency, Davis can always call for help...

In other news, Davis really likes to drink from his cup...and play with his cup.  He tries to drink out of any cup he can find, whether or not there is water in it.  He "drinks" so hard, I think he might drain every last bit of water out of the empty plastic cup.  In this pic I tried to capture him going cross-eyed to look at the water at the bottom of the cup.

I bought a pass to Thanksgiving Point.  So far we've just hit the gardens a couple of times, but it has been wonderful!  It is such a beautiful place, and it is so good to enjoy the outdoors.  If you're ever in town and want to go -- we're game (and we can get you in for half price!).  Here are a couple of pics from our first trip with the Marsings.

 Presley & Davis

Davis likes to balance his feet on the tray.

I couldn't get him to look at the camera -- not when a waterfall is nearby!

Proof I was there

Russ and I tried to take a few family pics last Sunday
(since we finally bought Russ a green tie so we could all match)

P.S. This was my 50th post -- I am so proud of my dedication!  It only took me 8 months!

Odes to a Banana

Oh banana, green and unripe
I will eat you with utter delight.
Oh banana, yellow and sweet
You are a disgusting thing to eat.
~by Davis

Oh banana, no matter the color
Your cleanup is tiring to the mother.
~by Elizabeth

Apparently, green bananas aren't the only thing Davis likes to eat:
I guess toe jam isn't very sweet either.

Happy Tax Day!

So today really is a happy tax day. It is the first April 15th I haven't worked since 2003! I quit my job almost a year ago-- wow, time flies! For the past three months I have done some tax work during Davis's naps and at night (about 10-12 hours a week) for my previous employer. I have really enjoyed doing that. It has been really nice to have something to do at night since Russ has been MIA for the past few months. I went into the office yesterday for 5 or 6 hours, and it was kind of fun. However, I am very grateful that I don't have to do it every day!! It is much more fun playing with Davis every day (even when the days are long). Here's what we've been up to:

Davis can pull himself up to a standing position now.
While this was cute when done in the crib, I have not enjoyed his bathtub antics... Tonight's bath was cut very short when he stood up three times in one minute...

Davis can also drink from a cup.
Not a sippy cup. A real cup. He doesn't really do sippy cups.
I should have thought about the ramifications of drinking from a real cup in relationship to drinking dirty bath water from a toy cup.

Russ has been in Vegas for the week, so Davis and I spent a couple of days in Kaysville hanging out with my parents and sisters. On Monday we went to the cool castle park in Fruit Heights to celebrate Abbie's 5th birthday
and grandpa's 85th birthday.
We all had a blast, even though it was super windy
(as evidenced by grandpa's mohawk in this next picture).

The boys all loved the swings, especially Ethan (who can swing for hours at a time, literally).

In other important news, spring has finally sprung! The weather was so nice this evening that I took my little drooler out for a little photo shoot.

He was a very difficult subject, watching every car drive by.
And there were quite a few since it was 5 pm...

But I was persistent.

He let me know when he'd had enough.
He knew it was bath time,
and he couldn't wait to stand up in the slippery bathtub.

Oh. And I got my hair cut last week.
For the first time in a long time.
A really long time.
I won't tell you how long.
But it rhymes with "a deer."

Easter and Other Tidbits

We celebrated Davis's first Easter with the Hadfields.
Grandpa Little gave Davis his very first Easter egg.

Davis knew just what to do with the egg.
First inspect it.

Hold onto it tighly to keep it away from Easter candy thieves.

Then shake it to scramble it.

And eat it, shell and all.
(Too bad for Davis he didn't actually get to eat the M&Ms inside...)

Grandma & Grandpa Hadfield had an Easter egg hunt in their front yard.
Davis picked up one or two eggs but then was pretty much done with it.
We gathered the rest of the eggs for him.
And we will eat his candy for him too :)

General Conference was wonderful!
It seemed like there were so many talks on motherhood.
I am really grateful to be a mom, and I'm so lucky to stay at home with Davis every day!

This is how Russ and Davis enjoyed conference Saturday morning...
Sorry for the bad picture, Russ; I just couldn't resist!

Here's another great pic -- I love Davis's face.
See, Russ really was paying attention...

And here are some random pictures.
It seems like Davis is becoming a toddler very rapidly.
He looks so grown up sitting on his couch, playing with his music table.

This is my favorite picture of Davis as of late.
It looks like he did something naughty and knows he will be in trouble.
Actually, when he knows he is in trouble, he gives me an evil grin.
I'm not sure how I captured this picture.

And here is a random story: Earlier this week, I put Davis down for a nap. He cried and cried, and then the crying stopped. I waited a few minutes, hoping that he had fallen asleep. When I checked on him, I found him sitting up in his crib, playing with a booger he had smeared all over both hands and his pants!!

Davis has started playing peek-a-boo lately. It is so fun to see him cover his eyes to play along. He also waves to Russ when he leaves for work. And today, when I was leading the music at our nephew, Braden's baptism, Russ got Davis to lead along with me. And when Russ stopped waving Davis's arm, Davis kept waving it on his own until I stopped!

The Toy Nazi and Other Random Things

I am first to admit that I am a toy nazi. I ration new toys; for example I didn't let Davis play with all of his Christmas toys at Christmas. I let him unwrap all of his presents, but I only let him play with one or two. The others were stored in the top of his closet until a day when I REALLY needed a new toy for him to play with. Yesterday was a REALLY long day. Since Davis has been crawling, his attention span is MUCH shorter. Both he and I get bored very easily now. The yucky weather we had yesterday made the day seem even longer. I finally pulled out his last Christmas toy and let him play with it.
And he loved it!

I have been meaning to post this next picture for a month. Russ received this birthday greeting in the mail from the banker who manages his IRA. Let's just say it made me think twice about letting him manage Russ's account...

This next picture comes as the result of an hour of mopping and scrubbing (including on my hands and knees with Clorox wipes) my kitchen floor. I have been scared to let Davis crawl on my kitchen floor, so I always put him in his exersaucer (which he doesn't exactly love) when I need him to be in the kitchen with me. I finally decided it was time to do a thorough floor cleaning and then let him have at it. He loved all of the space.

Here is proof that Davis helps me with the laundry.
He knows how to sort the socks.

Davis sometimes gets himself in awkward situations like this

and this

Sometimes he closes his eyes and pretends he's blind.

And he loves his tongue.
